ChatGPT vs Claude for Meta ads: which one fits your ad account
For Meta ads, the choice matters less than most comparisons suggest. Meta officially supports both ChatGPT and Claude through the same ads MCP server, and what an assistant may do in your ad account is set by Meta’s rules, not by the assistant. The real differences are plans and habits: Claude lets you add your own connector on every plan, including one on the free plan, while OpenAI promises connectors that can change data only on ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu. ChatGPT draws ad images and runs scheduled checks even on its free plan; Claude doesn’t generate photos. No independent test shows that either one writes better ads.

Meta treats both the same
The remote MCP server URL for our ads MCP server across all currently supported AI agents is https://mcp.facebook.com/ads.
Meta lists ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code and Perplexity as supported. What the agent may do is decided on Meta’s side: a portfolio admin can
set rules for each ad account, and Our ads MCP server will enforce these rules.
New ads are created paused:
All ads are paused by default until you set them live.
(source). So the assistant doesn’t change
what Meta’s connector can do — it changes which plan you need, how you’re asked before a change, and what else you can do around the ads.

ChatGPT and Claude side by side
| ChatGPT | Claude | |
|---|---|---|
| Your own connector | Full support, including changes, on Business and Enterprise/Edu; read-only on Pro; on Plus a server can be added, but changes aren’t promised (source) | Every plan; one custom connector on Free (source) |
| Phone | Connect on the web only | Connectors added on the web or desktop work in the mobile apps (source) |
| Asking before a change | Four permission levels, from “Always ask” to “Allow all actions” (source) | An approval prompt per tool, with “Allow always” for trusted tools; owners of Team and Enterprise can require approval for everyone (source) |
| Scheduled checks | Scheduled tasks on every plan; Free and Go run at most once a day, paid plans up to hourly (source) | Scheduled tasks on paid plans; they run remotely, even when your computer is asleep (source) |
| Ad images | ChatGPT Images on all plans (source) | No photos or illustrations; charts, diagrams and mock-ups (source) |
| Projects and memory | Projects on every plan, with project-only memory (source) | Each project has its own memory (source) |
| Cheapest way to make changes | Business: $25 per seat a month, at least 2 seats (source) | Free, with one connector; Pro $20 a month (source) |
Both read CSV and Excel exports and calculate with code; the prompts in our prompt
guide work in either. Neither company publishes exact message limits. Anthropic warns that Tools and connectors are token-intensive
(source), and ChatGPT Plus may have message caps, especially during high demand
(source).
Who asks before your budget changes
Both assistants can stop and ask before a tool changes something. In ChatGPT, “Allow read actions” reads freely and asks before
changes; but OpenAI’s wording is cautious: For write or modify actions, ChatGPT may ask for confirmation depending on app permissions, the action's context, and the action's potential impact.
(source). In Claude, Allow always
is meant for a tool you trust to run unsupervised
(source).
Don’t rely on the assistant alone
In both, one click turns the questions off for good. Keep a second lock where the assistant can’t switch it off: Meta’s rules in Business Suite settings, or a connector that previews every change and applies it only after you confirm. See can AI get your ad account banned.
Ad images and the AI info label
ChatGPT can draw ad images, add text and use any aspect ratio (source). Those images carry
provenance signals: Images generated with ChatGPT, Codex, or the OpenAI API include both signals
— Content Credentials and SynthID
(source). Meta detects third-party AI images through industry standards such as C2PA and labels them
“AI info” (source), so expect the label on ads built from ChatGPT images. Text needs no label on Meta.
Claude doesn’t generate photos or illustrations (source); use it for copy, analysis and layouts, and another tool for pictures.
Which one writes better ads?
No independent test compares them on ad copy or ad data. The numbers in the pages that rank for this search — “23 vs 18 high
performers”, “31% better results”, “80% of marketers prefer Claude” — come from vendors without a published method. The largest real
dataset we found measures use, not quality: in one connector vendor’s logs, Claude teams outnumber OpenAI-client teams roughly 7 to 1
(Windsor.ai). And research on how people rate AI tools found that what they were told beforehand
shifted user opinions and interaction behavior while task performance did not.

A fair test on your own account
Export the last 14–30 days by ad, give both assistants the same file and the same prompt, and compare the answers against Ads Manager. For copy, write two ads from each and run them as an A/B test; judge by qualified leads from your CRM, not by which text you like more.
Which to choose
- You run your own ads on a small budget: Claude, because a free or Pro plan already lets you connect and, with approval, change.
- Your team already works in ChatGPT Business: stay there — an admin adds the connector once for the workspace.
- You need images for the ads: ChatGPT draws them; check the AI info label before you publish.
- You want a check every morning: both can schedule it — ChatGPT on any plan, Claude on paid plans.
- An agency with many clients: either, one project per client with its own memory, so one client’s numbers don’t leak into another’s answers.
- You work in code: Claude Code reads the same connectors — see Claude Code for Meta ads.
Variafy works the same in both
Variafy connects ChatGPT, Claude and other assistants to your Meta ad accounts. Whichever you use:
- Every change — a pause, a budget, a new ad — comes back as a preview with its effect on spend and is applied only on a separate confirming step; the account owner can require that spend increases are approved by a signed-in person on our site, which no assistant setting can skip.
- With your CRM connected, both judge ads by qualified leads and sales rather than by cost per lead.
- Morning checks run on our side, so you get them whether or not your assistant can schedule tasks.
How we checked
Checked on 16 October 2026 against Meta’s Business Help Center (ads AI connectors, AI info labels), OpenAI’s help center (custom MCP servers, app permissions, scheduled tasks, images, provenance, plans and pricing, projects) and Anthropic’s help center (custom connectors, remote MCP, scheduled tasks, image capabilities, usage limits, memory) and pricing page. We also read the seven pages that currently rank for this search; they are all by vendors, and their quality figures are not repeated here. We added a custom MCP server on a ChatGPT Plus account on 11 October 2026.
Variafy is our product.
Questions
Is ChatGPT or Claude better for Meta ads?
Neither is proven better at ads. Both connect to Meta’s official connector, and Meta’s rules apply to both. Claude is easier to connect on cheap plans; ChatGPT generates ad images and scheduled tasks on every plan. Test both on your own data.
Can I connect Meta Ads to ChatGPT Plus?
You can add a custom MCP server on the web on Plus — we did on 11 October 2026 — but OpenAI promises full MCP, including changes, only on Business and Enterprise/Edu, and read-only access on Pro.
Can I connect Meta Ads to Claude for free?
Yes. Claude allows one custom connector on the free plan, so you can add a Meta ads connector there; more connectors and scheduled tasks need a paid plan.
Can Claude make Facebook ad images?
No. Claude doesn’t generate photos or illustrations; it makes charts, diagrams and mock-ups. ChatGPT can generate ad images, which Meta will likely label “AI info”.
Does Meta’s official connector work with ChatGPT and Claude?
Yes. Meta lists ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code and Perplexity as supported, all with the same server address, and its rules for what an agent may do apply to all of them.
Will ChatGPT or Claude change my ads without asking?
Both can ask before a change, but both let you turn the questions off. Keep approval in the connector too: Meta’s rules in Business Suite, or a connector that applies changes only after you confirm.
